• Student Jake Reilly PA State Junior Champion

    Champion Jake Reilly poses with Vice-President Jim ParsonsHershey, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Golf Association Junior Boys’ Championship was conducted concurrently with the Pennsylvania Women’s State Golf Association Junior Girls’ Championship on Monday and Tuesday, June 30 and July 1 at the Hershey Country Club’s East Course. The event was sponsored by the Allegheny Health Network.  On the boys side, Jake Reilly, Hershey Country Club, took home the champions hardware by shooting rounds of 66-70 for a 6-under-par total of 136.  That was good enough to best Runner-Up Gus Minkin, Out Door Country Club, by three strokes.  

• Andrew Forjan YCAGA Junior Champion

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               ABBOTTSTOWN — York Catholic senior Andrew Forjan knew he faced a tall task if he wanted to capture the York County Junior Golf Association George Barton Match Play Championship. Over the course of Monday and Tuesday, the top 16 boys' golfers in the YCJGA point standings would need to tackle four rounds of match play in order to be crowned the champion. The long days, coupled with searing heat and humidity, meant the champion wouldn't so much be a winner as he'd be a survivor.
  On Tuesday, that survivor was Forjan, who outlasted a late comeback by Eastern York senior Zach Dixon to force an extra hole, winning in 19 holes to capture the match-play title at Hanover Country Club. On the girls' side, Eastern York's Alexandra Lowder held off Susquehannock's Kendel Abrams, 1 up, to win the girls' trophy.
  "It's a little bit relieving after my finish that last round because I definitely doubted myself for a second," Forjan said. "I definitely played well enough to get here and get to where I was and I'm just really happy I won it."
  

• Nick Geiman & Evan Greenplate win Junior Championship

  Nick Geiman was crowned the 2014 champion at Monday's York County Junior Championship, presented by the York County Amateur Golf Association.Geiman shot a 4-under-par 104 over 27 holes to win the title at Our Door Country Club. He beat second-place finisher Gus Minkin by five strokes.Kevin Crumbling, Zach Dixon and Evan Greenplate each shot an 111.Julianne Lee won the girls' division, carding a 79. Greenplate was the 13-14 winner (18 holes), recording a 75 to best Logan Snyder by three strokes.

• Lancaster County Junior Golf Tour Hat trick sparks Will Riva to LCJGT win at Hawk Valley

  Will Riva, a rising junior at Lancaster Catholic, opened the current Lancaster County Junior Golf Tour season with a victory at Overlook.After that tournament, he thanked his “lucky charm” — a white bucket hat that protects his pale skin, blonde hair and blue eyes from the sun.Riva, however, recently slept over at a friend’s house. But with Tuesday’s Golf, Etc., Lusk & Associates Junior at Hawk Valley drawing near, he realized there was something missing — his lucky charm.“I called him (and said), ‘Hey, I need you to bring that bucket hat. I need it,’ ” Riva said.When his friend arrived at Hawk Valley on Tuesday, Riva charged up to him and urgently asked, “Dude, you have my hat? I need it.”The exchange was made, and Riva was reunited with his lucky charm.Good thing, too. With the hat came Riva’s second LCJGT championship of the summer.After playing a stellar round of 36-37—73, Riva finished four strokes ahead of Ethan Cairns (39-38—77) and Patrick Neslund (36-41—77) for the crown.“To be honest, tee to green was the best I’ve ever played,” Riva said. “I hit 17 greens.”

• Evan Greenplate & Matt Weaver win Junior Tournament

  Good Morning Country Club of York Golfers,
  Yesterday, CCY had numerous Junior Golfers compete in the
  York County Junior Golf Association event at Heritage Hills.  Two of our Future Champion participants
  Matthew Weaver and Bobby Nicholson took 1st and 2nd place in the 9 hole
  division at Heritage Hills.  Matthew
  posted a strong 9 hole score of 44 and runner-up Bobby Nicholson posted a solid
  score of 49.
  Also placing in the event was Junior Club Champion
  Brandon Greenplate taking 2nd place in the 15-18 Blue Tee's Division with a
  score of 79.  His younger brother Evan
  Greenplate took 1st place in the Boys 14 and Under Age Division with a score of
  80.  Robbie Stewart also tied for 3rd
  place in the Boys 15-18 White Tee's Division with a score of 87.

• Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour at Bent Creek C.C.

  Philadelphia PGA Junior Tournament  at Bent Creek, Lancaster, PA
  Luke Thompson wins 13 to 15 Age group with a 72,  placing 3rd place Matthew Weaver, and Jun lee both scored 77, and Karl Frisk tied for 7th with a 79.
  in the Girls Division age 16 to 18 Julianne Lee scored 77 and won first place, and Amanda Gerrish won the 13 to 15 division with a 85.
